Internationally renowned artist McCreery Jordan is known for her exquisitely original and intensely lyrical art. Her style and subject matter are strictly her own, yet her constant experimentation keeps her work fresh and magical, moving seamlessly from realism into abstraction. McCreery’s art, which is often very large in scale, reflects an astonishing ability to evoke mystery and soulful clarity.

Raised in Ohio around the Great Lakes, McCreery has traveled and created art around the world. She has made Santa Fe, New Mexico, her home since 1993. McCreery’s life and art are the subject of many articles and publications and her work is shown in galleries around the USA. She has garnered many national awards and honors - most notably from the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe and The Toledo Museum of Art.

McCreery’s work is represented in many distinguished public and private collections worldwide, and has been shown on episodes of “Everybody Loves Raymond”, “The Reba McIntire Show”, and “The West Wing”. McCreery is featured as one of four artists in a new pilot episode of ART and SOUL.

“One day, while fishing on the Pecos River, I came upon a raven funeral. The memory of my near death experience came flooding back to me. A few decades ago, during a difficult surgery, I died for a little while, long enough for me to feel myself leave my body and observe the situation on the operating table below from an aerial perspective. I felt extremely calm and unconcerned about my situation, as the surgeons frantically dipped gauze into my open abdomen, removed what looked to me like giant rubies with forceps, and threw them into a metal container a few feet away. I was fascinated and the only words I heard throughout the ordeal was " Ok, this isn't good!."

But as it turned out, it WAS good, because I came back and with a new perspective on death. It took the fear out of it. Death is not as final as I thought. In recovery, the doctor was a little surprised at my observations which could only have been made from above the operation table.The memory of the sparkling and colorful offerings the ravens were bringing to the funeral of their fallen comrade had a real influence on my work, and coming back from death myself, made me realize that the experience injected joy and depth into my artwork. My palette was a bit dark and dreary before that happened. Since then, my work is more infused with color and light.

The fusion of ravens in some of my abstracts are an homage to my experience. Ravens are so much more than EA Poe’s dark characters. They are delightful, self-aware, sometimes comical, beautiful and communicative beings; messengers between worlds.”
